PBG Wins Plant of the Year Award
November 17, 2005 - It was called "innovative" and "state-of-the-art" when it opened its doors back in November of 2003. Now, The Pepsi Bottling Group's (PBG) New River Valley plant can add "2005 Plant of the Year" to its list of accolades.

Beverage World magazine chose the Wytheville, Virginia plant for its innovative, flexible physical design, cutting-edge quality control, processing and packaging technology and its commitment to the community in which it operates.

"PBG New River Valley is a model of modern beverage plant design," said Beverage World Editor-in-Chief Andrea Foote. "Running cans, PET and Bag-in-Box in a single facility, the plant was designed for maximum flexibility and incorporates the best in modern beverage processing and packaging technology. It's a beautiful plant and it's a real testament to the ingenuity of the PBG operations team."
Beverage World presented the 2005 Plant of the Year Award to New River Valley Plant Manager Rodney Coleman at its BevOps conference in Phoenix, Arizona earlier this week. The New River Valley plant was featured in the August 2004 issue of the magazine.

"It is an honor to receive this award from Beverage World," said Coleman. "The New River Valley facility represents the very best of our capability and allows us to provide our customers with the highest-quality products, superior marketplace execution and excellent service that is a hallmark of PBG."

The plant serves customers in parts of Virginia, West Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. With nearly 200 employees, it operates 24 hours per day producing a wide variety of Pepsi-Cola products, including Pepsi-Cola, Diet Pepsi, Mountain Dew, Sierra Mist and Aquafina bottled water.
The New River Valley plant incorporates several advanced features, including high-speed, self-cleaning filling machines, robotic systems that load and unload raw materials and finished product, and a variety of sophisticated packaging systems. The plant has four production lines, a 12-ounce can line, two plastic (PET) bottle lines and a Bag-in-Box (BIB) line, which produces product for distribution to food service outlets.
