In 2008, PBG published its first corporate responsibility report entitled Act! Our Commitment to Making a Difference. While we have been integrating “green” practices into our operations for many years, PBG recognized the importance of communicating to our stakeholders what we are doing to reduce our environmental footprint. Our primary objectives in this area are to:
Use natural resources responsibly
- Improve water conservation
- Exercise strong energy management
- Expand self-manufacturing
Produce less waste
- Recycle and promote consumer recycling
- Innovate in lightweighting
Focusing on the areas where PBG, as a beverage company, can make the biggest difference, we have achieved a number of key advancements:
Water Conservation
- 300 million gallons of water conserved each year in the U.S. alone through sanitation, production and air rinsing advancements
- 1.83 water usage ratio
Energy Management
- 100% of the company’s U.S. electricity needs are offset through the purchase of renewable energy certificates
- 11% improvement in the efficiency of lighter weight PBG trucks
- Reduction of electricity usage by approximately 798,000 kilowatt hours by retiring less energy efficient vending machines. In terms of greenhouse gas emissions, this is equivalent to removing 36,000 passenger vehicles from the road.
Waste Reduction and Recycling
- 881 tons of paper conserved annually through E-invoicing
- 16,000 tons of plastic saved in 2007 by reducing material in bottles
